Are You a Victim of Your Own Success?

Whether your tireless efforts have helped you to reach a solid point in your career - or maybe it’s a perfect family foundation that you’ve spent your time building. At some point, your life will be upset by something.

Perhaps, you’ve temporarily given up friends, said no to social outings and family in order to “get ahead”. OR maybe it’s the difficult situation at home that throws you off balance. There is an expense that you’ve paid for your success.

As time has gone on and we’ve added more layers onto our life - like a job, a partner, children, caretaking, volunteer work - our motivations may have begun to work against us, creating a never-ending list of responsibilities.

In addition, our culture plays a huge role in the burnout we experience as results-driven women. As a result, we may end up shouldering an additional burden of supporting and encouraging friends, family, and community members as more is expected from us due to our achievements and capabilities. You have become the “go-to girl”. It has all become too much. As people grow to depend on us, where we once loved the idea of being dependable and the “go-to girl”, we now resent it.

As women, many of us were raised to say yes. That yes has come at the expense of our health - mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. The thought of letting someone down is not acceptable. So we’ve ghosted our own goals to show up for those we love and care for. Many times we sacrifice time with loved ones for the career that we were building only to be left feeling empty and still not recognized for our efforts.

We have heard about burnout, but we don’t know how to prevent it for ourselves. For one, we may have formed our identities around our roles in our homes and communities. To take time for ourselves means that we 1) accomplish less and 2 ) risk losing part of who we are. So out of fear, we never learn to truly balance our roles with the need for self-care.

Nevertheless, there is hope for tomorrow. Burnout prevention and recovery coaching can help you find peace while maintaining your identity. It can help you deal with unique life stressors in a healthy way while still doing what you love.
